Game Design
NetEnt has really been able to go to town with Serengeti Kings. With an impressive backdrop which features African plains, you will begin the game at dusky sunset with rich red and orange colours. You will notice the two counters on either side of the reels. The yellow counter on the left indicates ‘Lion Spins’, while the darker purple one on the right of the reels is ‘Panther Spins’. These are integral to the gameplay and structure, but we’ll get on to that in a bit more detail in the next section.
As you spin, the 5×4 reels will fill will various symbols of differing value. The two highest-paying symbols are the Lion and Panther which you will collect as you play. Other symbols include a hyena, zebra, meerkats and a giraffe. Plus there is the usual mix of letters. The African music playing in the background really helps to evoke the essence of being on safari!
Gameplay
Serengeti Kings follows a set structure to the gameplay with a repeating cycle of 12 spins. You will begin with 12 Lion Spins and then the sun sets and you will start with 12 Panther Spins, and the cycle continues for as long as you wish to play.
You will begin with ‘Lion Spins’ and as you spin, you will collect high-value Lion symbols. At the end of each 12 spins, they will be thrown at random on to the reels and can help towards winning combinations as well as delivering Wilds and Multipliers for some big wins. Then, when Panther Spins begins, you will start to collect Panther symbols and so the game continues.
If a Lion symbol is placed on a Panther symbol or vice versa, a Wild is created. If the symbol is placed above a matching symbol or Wild, this triggers a 1x multiplier on that symbol. Every bet line has a starting x1 multiplier, any additional multipliers are added to this and will be applied to any wins from that bet line.
Free Spins
Free spins can be triggered with 3 or more Scatters appearing anywhere on the reels during the main game. 12 spins will be awarded at the start of the feature. Depending on how many Scatters have triggered the free spins, one of three options can take place.
Three Scatters will mean that you begin your free spins with each counter at 0. If you have activated free spins with 4 Scatters, you will begin with the same number of symbols you had collected on your counters in the main game. With 5 Scatters, you will begin with your symbols carried over from the main game with 5 additional symbols added to each counter.
During free spins, you will still continue to collect counters which will be randomly placed on the reels at the end of your spins.
